The key equity barometers traded with steady gains in morning trades. Nifty moved in a range of 22928-22637. Nifty IT, Nifty Auto and Nifty Private Bank shares advanced, while Nifty PSU Bank and Nifty Media shares retreated.
At 10:45 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, gained 1078.45 points or 1.48% to 73,860.34. The Nifty 50 index advanced 290.90 points or 1.29% to 22,913.60.
The broader market lagged behind the frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index added 0.12% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index lost 0.31%.
The market breadth was fragile. On the BSE, 2251 shares rose and 2314 shares declined. A total of 283 shares were unchanged.
Nifty IT index climbed 2.12% to 30812. The index has inched higher by 2.08% in last one month and shed 14.32% over last one year. HCL Technologies, edging up 3.34%, led the gainers followed by Tech Mahindra, inching higher 3.22% and TCS, gaining 2.91%, respectively. Out of 10 index constituents, 8 are reporting gains today.
Nifty Auto index advanced 1.71% to 25587. The index has retreated 5.98% in last one month and lost 5.57% over last one year. Hero Motocorp, up 2.52%, led the gainers followed by Maruti Suzuki, adding 2.33% and M & M, inching higher 2.25%, respectively. Out of 15 index constituents, 13 are reporting gains today.
Nifty PSU Bank index slipped 1.17%. The index has risen slightly by 0.11% in last one month and inched up 7.52% over last one year. Canara Bank, retreating 5.33%, led the losers followed by Bank of Maha, easing 3.26% and Bank of India, slipping 2.59%, respectively. Out of 12 index constituents, 7 are reporting loss today.
Out of 14 sectoral indices on NSE, 9 are in green today. Nifty IT index has posted strong gains of 2.08% in last one month and has tumbled 14.32% over last year. Nifty PSU Bank index is modestly higher by 0.11% in last one month and has gained 7.52% over last one year.
From NIFTY50 index, Motherson Wiring, Vodafone Idea AND IDBI Bank are leading in terms of volumes today, clocking turnover of 6098.02 lakh shares, 911.2 lakh shares and 3489.54 lakh shares respectively.
Asian markets recorded sharp declines on Thursday. China’s Shanghai composite is firmly lower by 2.12%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng is significantly lower by 1.44%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 is sharply lower by 4.32%.
NIFTY50 Oct-26 futures are in discount of 56.40 points today.
