The key domestic indices finished marginally higher. Nifty Healthcare Index, Nifty Consumer Durables and Nifty Pharma shares rose, while Nifty Private Bank and Nifty Metal shares fell.
As per provisional closing data, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, added 286.98 points or 0.37% to 77,656.09. The Nifty 50 index posted modest gains of 115.50 points or 0.48% to 24,334.55.
The broader market performed worse than frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index edged higher by 0.37% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index posted modest losses of 0.17%.
The market breadth was negative. On the BSE, 2495 shares gained and 2682 shares retreated. A total of 187 shares were unchanged.
Eternal Ltd was the top traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 290.62 lakh shares and saw a sharp increase of 12.02% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has risen sharply by around 16.84% in last one-month and has risen slightly 2.47% over last one year.
Tata Steel Ltd was the second highest traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 245.78 lakh shares and recorded a sharp spurt of 12.52% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has gained around 1.99% in last one-month and has posted strong gains of 16.71% over last one year.
Index action
The Nifty Healthcare Index index advanced slightly by 1.09% to 16597.45 today. The index is modestly lower by 0.07% in last one week and has inched higher by 1.12% over last one month. It has risen by 11.27% in last one year. Laurus Labs Ltd (up 3.62%), Divis Laboratories Ltd (up 2.92%), Max Healthcare Institute Ltd (up 2.57%), Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd (up 2.15%) and Syngene International Ltd (up 1.97%) went up.
The Nifty Private Bank index inched down by 0.20% to 27447.45 today. The index has edged up by 0.70% in last one week and has edged up 0.82% over last one month. It has gained modestly by 3.02% in last one year. Federal Bank Ltd (down 3.02%), IDFC First Bank Ltd (down 1.04%), RBL Bank Ltd (down 1.03%), Yes Bank Ltd (down 0.44%) and IndusInd Bank Ltd (down 0.33%) moved lower.
The Nifty Metal index moved lower by 0.07% to 13372.3 today. The index is higher by 2.11% in last one week and has climbed 7.90% over last one month. It has rallied by 41.80% in last one year. Hindustan Copper Ltd (down 7.23%), Welspun Corp Ltd (down 2.64%), Hindustan Zinc Ltd (down 1.89%), National Aluminium Company Ltd (down 1.36%) and Vedanta Ltd (down 0.72%) traded lower.
The Nifty Realty index rose for a third session in a row today. Lodha Developers Ltd (up 1.80%), Brigade Enterprises Ltd (up 1.04%), Oberoi Realty Ltd (up 0.53%) and Godrej Properties Ltd (up 0.45%) jumped.

DOW futures are edging higher by 0.40% today.
MCX Crude oil futures are plunging 2.99% at Rs 8129.0 per barrel.
NIFTY50 futures closed marginally higher by 0.51% at 24334 and are in a discount of 1 points compared to NIFTY50.
