Local stock markets may see a muted to weaker start today. The Gift Nifty April 2026 futures are modestly lower by 0.10 points, pointing to a subdued start for the benchmark index today. The domestic equity market posted modest losses in last session, with BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 marginally lower.The BSE Sensex has drifted lower 5.75% over the last one month, while the NSE Nifty has eased 5.67% over the same period.

In Asia today, sentiment was mildly upbeat. China’s SSE Composite Index ticked up 0.21% while Japan’s Nikkei 225 inched higher 1.28%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index remained flat.

Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold shares worth Rs 9,980 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net buyers to the tune of Rs 6,952 crore in the Indian equity market on 29 September 2026, provisional data showed.

Overnight on Wall Street, stocks drifted lower across the board. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was slightly lower by 131.59 points, or 0.26%, and closed at 51370.92. The S&P 500 posted modest gains of 0.17% to end at 7757.25, and the NASDAQ Composite posted modest losses of 0.10% to 26813.88.

Yesterday, the S&P BSE Sensex eased 242.65 points or 0.33% to 72529.07. The Nifty 50 index slipped 64.05 points or 0.28% to 22716.20. Adani Enterprises Ltd was top gainer in Nifty 50 yesterday, moving higher by 5.01% to Rs 2972.90. The stock has risen slightly around 1.43% in last one-week and trades lower 10.47% over last one-month.

In sectoral indices, only Nifty Metal index edged up yesterday, adding 0.78% on the day.
